WHAT I LOVE
+ 8 SWUs that I can use on any fare, and they actually clear! (85% success rate)
+ MUCH better front-line service, smiles, favors and treatment -- EXP is just like the "old" 1K used to be on United
+ Wifi on the planes is a great benefit, and grateful for MRTC (I was worried I would miss E+)
+ Snack in coach for EXPs when your upgrade doesn't clear (LOVE this little perk!)
+ Access to IFL and now a new Amex Centurion Lounge in DFW D
+ AAdmirals Clubs are good quality and always wonderful service
+ EXP phone desk is miles ahead of the excuse United has for a 1K line
WHAT I MISS OR HATE
- United EQM bonuses for class of service -- since I fly a mix of discount economy domestically and international business class fares, I used to qualify way faster on United than on AA's point/miles system
- Award availability -- AA is just plain stingy with award space
- Global route network -- Asia, Australia, more limited oneworld network in Europe
- The BA fuel surcharge for award redemptions is usurious, and in my mind should be borderline illegal
- UA upgrades clearing based on fare purchased -- I often buy the week before I fly, and on AA am punished even though I probably paid a higher fare
Thank you for the detail! Good information to know.
One thing you do not mention (except to briefly say that you live in a United hub, I assume DEN) is routes you fly / route network.
Are you sacrificing direct flights to go with AA? How has this been for you?
What are your typical destinations?
This is the single hardest obstacle for me to overcome flying from SFO. AA is a joke (sorry Tom911, I know it works for you and some others!). VX's dartboard route network has too many holes. DL is up and coming, but may become truly viable in 2014 or 2015.
Which leaves me back where I started: Majority of my flying is on UA, with the primary driver of this being my UA hub based location.
Thanks again.
