Does anyone know if it is possible to pay some part of your ticket using Krisflyer miles, and then also claiming for an award upgrade on either the inbound/outbound flight?

i.e. Purchase an economy Flexi fare and use miles so that you are only paying the cost of a Flexi Saver. Then use points again to upgrade to J.

Better still, can the miles used to pay for the Flexi fare be from a redemption nominee and then you use your own miles for the award upgrade? It may work out costing less money and points by just getting a J award flight and then purchase the other Y flight as a one-way, but I'd be interested if this can be done.
