After arriving after midnight at the Westin NY and being walked, I decided it will never happen to me again. Since then every time I arrive at similar times, I usually email the hotel in advance and let them know my ETA. I also include a warning (in a nice way) not to cancel my reservation.
I have been consciously doing that - If despite of all these steps taken on my part and I'm still being walked, I will be quite demanding on remediations.
Then again, elite members usually have pre-assigned rooms, regardless of our check-in times..
For the record, I NEVER check in between 3pm-6pm whenever I'm on business. It's always closer to midnight. I'm sure most will have the same pattern at work.
