The answer to 1 is yes. Better still you can do it without needing redemption availability if you book the J component through a travel agent and use the GUF2 at the same time. They can use the GUF2 using revenue availability as opposed to redemption availability.

I will leave point 2 for someone else as I'm not 100% sure.
