A year or two ago, United aggressively demanded that customers use their legal first name for their Mileage Plus account, claiming a U.S. government requirement. That caused a problem for those of us that go by our middle name, not our first name. United refused even to include my middle name in many of their references, so website greeting, luggage tags etc. have the "wrong" name.

Funny how American, Delta, Southwest etc. continue to use my middle name for my accounts there, as do all other FT memberships and all 20-odd active credit cards.

Has anyone been able to convince the "friendly" airline to use the given name they actually go by, which also happens to be part of their legal name? Perhaps UAInsider could weigh in?
