First Class booking but in business

Been looking at redemption flights from HKG-DOH and if I select "first", I get offered business as there is no first class cabin.
If I then go for HKG-DXB, I get offered "first" to DOH on the same flight and then onto DXB (with the business cabin to DOH and what seems to be a first cabin to DXB).

How exactly does this work?
