Oh yeah, I figured out that'd be the reason. In fact, it was also strangely (AND inappropriately) sold with my 7D as a kit when the camera first came out, and I sold it white-box on Amazon Marketplace myself. At that time, I was thinking, Canon probably had a huge surplus of the 24-105s gathering dust, and decide to lump it as a kit.

The OP should have gotten the kit in the first place.
