I fly this route 4 or 5 times a year and would agree with DCA-SEA's assessment. As a result of the hard to get upgrades, I've resorted to flying through PDX, when possible, and flying on off days.

DCA/EWR are the routes in the AS system (so far) that I will get in a day early/or leave a day late in order to hopefully score an upgrade.
