A Hong Kong dining experience: CC slip presented with 2 check boxes: HK$554 or US$74.46. I asked if they could run it again in HKD. Waiter said 外國卡就係咁 (foreign cards are always like this), and assured me by marking HKD I'd be charged HKD. So I marked HKD.
2 nights later PDT/EDT, charge finally posted in USD ($74.46), so I hit the dispute button right that afternoon HKT, explained it was a DCC choice-not-honored issue. Using 3 other transactions on the same day and on the same card (which Capital One can easily see), I calculated it should've been only US$71.46, hence disputing US$3.00. In just a few hours (back after dinner), Capital One already replied:
Two major points: "We have charged back." and "We consider your case closed." That would be better than "caving in" to DCC because the work is too costly.
EDIT: Beside ticking HKD, I also wrote "0" on TIP and "HKD 554" on TOTAL. However, this case is amazingly efficient to me because Capital One didn't even ask to see my slip! All in a few hours of time before regular business hours EDT.
