Are you going to use that SIM at least once every one or two months in the US? Otherwise, my understanding is that the plan would not apply because you have to have a majority of the usage in the US.
It is certainly going to be logged onto TMobile network. I can leave it pulling my email on my home dresser in an old phone. It won't use 500mb if I don't open anything and will keep TMobile. If domestic calls are free, I can always call into some conference calls, etc when I am home. TMobile is trying to catch people who live abroad with these phones, not people who use it as a secondary phone and who live in the US.
