Sure its doable especially if you want to be absolutely buggered! Also don't worry that most of the south islands weather can change rapidly as it comes from the southern ocean hits the mountains and fiords and causes havoc, because you've hiked elsewhere in the world. It should be a breeze!

Snow in Queenstown yesterday, today the unofficial beginning of summer.
