I think it's a better idea to do a status challenge just prior to a boatload of travel on your target airline. I have a load coming up for which Delta is the only practical option.

Looking more closely, looks like the dates in the welcome email are all wrong. It refers to rolling over miles from the 2012 program year into 2013, which is clearly out of date.
