I stayed at the fabulously cheap Tune Hotels in Bangkok and they turn off the power EXACTLY at the predetermined checkout time. And you have to return the towel and remote kit to the front desk anyway. So you just can't wait , nap or whatever and slink out later.
I have for quite a few years considered an hour past official checkout fair game and not even worth asking for and never had an issue. If the hotel is fully booked and really needs the room they will give you a call. Also, I am the type that calls down to the front desk to check out and that gives you another 15 minutes easy. Never had a problem.
