One flexibility with AS is you can fly AA or DL and get AS miles. Then you just have 2 pools of miles --AS and UA---to do award travel.

Flying out of DCA you are limited on AS to LAX, SEA, and PDX.
Not to be a grouch, but I'm pretty sure all of these time were addressed in the OP...
