Yes. SIN-NRT falls under "intra-Asia" since SIN is not Australia, mainland China, or India. NRT-SJC falls under "trans-Pacific."

Shrug, I don't think it's that obvious of a tradeoff. UA is 17.3" x 35" (assuming you get E+) and NH is 33-34" x 18.6". It's up to you whether pitch or width is more comfortable.
