No worries; I've done this many times, and it's quite easy! The only costs you will incur are the taxes and fees - and the telephone call fee. (But beware - BA operated flights incur very high fees, and IB higher than AA and other partners' fees.)

Gifting or other arrangements of your miles to someone else cost a lot of money; gifting award tickets not.
