Not allowing via PEK I can see... that really is the long way around (though incidentally, since NA-Asia via Africa is OK, you could always go NA-JNB-PEK-NA for the price of an Asia roundtrip.
As for not allowing via GRU, that's weird... it's faster than via Europe in many cases.
