I have to mention, though, that this was that first time flying BA to MIA (as mentioned in previous post) and I was unaware that my bag wouldn't be on the belt. Had I had the choice (known this in advance) I would've had the bag checked only to MIA. I am not comfortable leaving my bag overnight at any airport.

I was only recently aware of some exception to the standard process of picking up bags after an international arrival. So, while OP may be able to avoid picking up the bag at MIA, I wouldn't recommend leaving it at MIA overnight.... but, the odds are the bag will be OK...
