You might want to make sure that the card is linked to your pre-existing SPG account. Sometimes, they open a new one for you when you apply for the card, and the points may be in that account. Customer Service can straighten it out, but you don't usually even have to wait for the statement to cycle -- the points hit once spend is made -- so a call to Customer Service is definitely in order.
I had this same experience recently with the SPG business Amex. My advice: call Amex to confirm that your card is linked to the correct SPG number, and if so, then call SPG to have the accounts merged.
