Booking China Southern Airlines through third-party website

Hello all,

My family and I will be travelling to Australia in December, and the best fares seem to be via China Southern Airlines. However, we're a bit concerned about how the process will work in practice.

Normally, we book our tickets through the KLM website with our Flying Blue numbers, and in that case, we can later access the bookings through our Flying Blue account and select seats, check in, specify meals, and all of that. However, in this case, the KLM-branded version of the itinerary is much more expensive, so we'll need to use a different process to book.

If we book our tickets on China Southern Airlines through a site such as opodo, what will be possible? Specifically:
  1. If we give our Flying Blue numbers at the time of booking, is the booking likely to show up in our Flying Blue accounts?
  2. Will we be able to select seats in advance, either through the Flying Blue website or through the CSA website?
  3. Will we be able to check in online? Note that the CSA FAQ says that online check-in is available for "adults"; we will be travelling with our two-year-old son, but will we still be able to check all of ourselves in as a group?

Above all, we don't want to be stuck checking in at the airport and getting middle seats or seats apart from each other for the long-haul flights ...

Anyone have recent experience buying this sort of tickets who can reassure me before we buy these tickets; time is ticking ...
