Arrived in Charlotte and drove to Boone, NC to get on the Blue Ridge Parkway
Picnicked at Grandfather Mountain and went on a short nature hike on the Black Rock Trail.
Day 2:
Great Smoky Mountains National Park - simply spectacular and not to be missed (truth be told, this was the highlight of the trip for me...enough fall foliage here I could have skipped the BRP this time)
Day 3:
Drove back to Charlotte, with a stop at the Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens
Have a great trip! You'll love the colors.
I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed your visit to our beautiful part of the world.
Today I drove on the parkway south of Asheville and the color was brighter than it was on the north side. The parkway between Hwy 276 (milepost 413) and Asheville is particularly beautiful right now.
