A friend has travelled with lead crystal. She was asked to unpack and display on one occasion (because something could be hidden inside a vase, for example), just asked about it on others.

Slightly OT, but she also brought back a cuckoo clock in her carry-on on one occasion. The lead pendant weights showed up when she was going through TSA on her intl-domestic connection. She had a tight connection, clock packed very carefully (clock is very fragile, weights are heavy). Xray tech flagged it, second TSO looked at the xray, asked if it was a cuckoo clock, she said 'yes' and was good to go. Not something you'd think they see very often in the US.
