Lap Infant / Lap Child Check-in and Boarding Passes

I searched and searched and could not find a previous thread on this topic, but please do let me know if I've missed it.

Previously, when traveling with a lap infant on my itinerary, I've been unable to check in online and was required to check in at the airport. However, on my most recent domestic trip with Lil' Miss dstan earlier this month, I was surprised to find that we were, in fact, able to check in online via AA.com. Mrs. dstan's printed Boarding Pass carried the necessary "WITH INFANT" designator next to her name in small, hard-to-read gray letters (just before the TSA Preê logo). Her mobile BP (the one sent via email where you save the long skinny image to your mobile device) also had the designation.

However, after checking in we were still unable to view boarding passes via the iPhone app (and presumably also still would not have been able to check in via the app). Not sure what the technical issues are with updating the app, but that's the current status.

I'm also not sure about international flights, where the 10% infant fare + taxes applies and the infant is issued their own ticket number, since I only had one experience traveling with her from back in 2012.

One additional note - AA is now using barcoded pink baggage tags for gate-checked strollers and carseats. This can sometimes slow things down (more than usual) at boarding if the gate agent has trouble getting the scanner to work properly (the tag needs to be scanned, then the BP may need to be re-scanned).
