FWIW Ohana is a major brand in Hawaii and in general their hotels are good values. Hawaii has a unique environment. The reviews on Trip Advisor are generally positive for the hotel you got within its stated star level. I don't know that any of the comparable brands listed would be any better. In general, Hawaii's 4 star hotels are better bets - the best places are those rated as resorts by Priceline on the Big Island and on Maui.

I have a mixed opinion of Trip Advisor reviews. There are lots of things people find "ok/acceptable" that I would never tolerate. Yelp! had some pretty bad recent reviews. And yes, some of those reviewers bring their own bias and baggage - I fully accept that.
I know I can't be overly picky when I am trying to get bargain basement pricing, but I really don't feel the Ohana West is equal to the nearby Courtyard from everything I've read. YMMV, of course.
