You need to call the Gold desk, have them take you off of the waitlist (where you are listed as MVP) and add you back in, where it will then show you as Gold. You will be behind all of the other 75K & Golds, but ahead of MVP & partners.
I have a related question -- I purchased a flight in June 2013 (for me and a companion), for a vacation in December. I was probably MVP at the time (so I could not be first-class waitlisted since I had a companion traveling with me) but have now reached MVP Gold. My companion does not have any elite status.
Our departure flight seems to be in L fare class, and our return flight is in H fare class.
Since H is a fare that allows complimentary MVP Gold upgrades...is there a way for us to get upgraded immediately (today?) as opposed to waiting for 72 hours prior to departure? Do I need to call the customer service desk, or is this something that can't be done 'retroactively'?
For what it's worth, I did go to my reservation this morning on the website, and clicked the link to request to be put on the first class wait list.
I appreciate any info.
