You can't catch a cold from wet hair or not being warm enough in cold weather. It's an old wives tale! I'm a doctor and always have to tell my patients that. Proper hand washing and hydration will keep most colds and flu away. But sometimes it will happen anyway regardless of what precautions you take.
Most kids get over colds very quickly, within a few days usually. Mine will have runny nose and cough but no fever so they are not uncomfortable and appear well otherwise.
I would definitely take the trip if you really want to and not let it worry you.
