Never yet seen a Low Cost Carrier successful operate a transatlantic route (remember Laker, Maxjet or EOS) or a Far East route. Fingers crossed for Norwegian.

BA's market is for US passengers with connections to europe and beyond not just UK customers. Most european connections are at LHR not LGW.
