Are you sure there's a 50% bonus offer now? There was one for the month of July this year. It seems a bit too soon for another one. I haven't seen any news about this offer either.
Before you convert any avion points, I would make sure that there are award tickets available for the dates you want. January is not very far away and award availability evaluated pretty quickly these days with the huge quantities of avios that have been given out.
