Most memorable non UK hogmanay was in the small town of Betanzos in Galicia/Spain staying with the wife's relatives. The tradition there is to have a massive plate of hot prawns then at the stroke of midnight you eat 12 grapes as fast as possible.....without choking!

New Years day is the big celebration when everyone in the town heads up the hill to the market to eat boiled octopus and wine. All good stuff and everyone is welcome.

A pleasant change from the usual getting pissed UK party.
