Millions travel in and out of bad countries and this is no where near the levels of Somalia or Afghanistan.
Afghanistan is relatively fine in parts for a prepared tourist, better than even Iraq. Far worse places include Somalia, Syria, but also some non-tourist places in Africa (drc springs to mind), and several Mexican drug towns.

There's dodgy areas too, I would NOT drive Kabul to Islamabad over the khyber pass.
