Extend Senator status for 1 year for €2k???

Here is an email I received today, which I find rather comical:

Secure your Senator privileges

"Dear Mr Polandexpat,

As a Senator you receive our special attention. So we would like to take this opportunity to give you advance notice that your Senator card is due to expire February 2014. The number of status miles in your account on 7 October 2013 is not yet sufficient to renew your Senator status from March 2014.

To extend your status you will need to earn 100,000 status miles by the end of this year. You can check your current mileage balance at any time in your personal online lounge at miles‑and‑more.pl.

We would like to offer you the opportunity to continue to enjoy the benefits of Senator status – even if you are unable to earn the required number of status miles before the end of the year; you can extend your Senator status for one calendar year for a fee of 2,000 euros at miles‑and‑more.pl/en/senator.

Should you be unable to earn the necessary number of status miles to renew your Senator status, you will automatically receive a silver Frequent Traveller card in the new year. With this card you can continue to earn award and status miles and enjoy numerous privileges. As soon as you achieve the required number of status miles again, you will be sent a new Senator card.

We would be delighted if we could continue to welcome you on board as a Senator."

As I've previously written here and expressed to LH through surveys I've received, I can't really continue doing business with an airline that demands > 50% higher fares than competing airlines. We know that this is accomplished through a variety of means, not the least of which is eliminating D class fares on RT business fares.

I've purposefully booked away for LH for well over a year now because of this. I find it almost comical that they want me to renew my > 10 year Senator status for an eye watering €2k, when they clearly don't want my business any other time.

I'm not sure if this qualifies as a rant (I hope not) or if it should be a post to another thread, but in any case I find the situation absurd.
