We are going to NZ in January, from Victoria, BC, Canada. We intend to fly premium economy.

We have roughly 185,000 Visa Avion points. We have concluded that it is not a good idea to use them directly, because there is a price limit.

There is an offer from Visa to transfer our points to BA Avios. The exchange rate is 1 to 1.5, so we would have roughly 275,000 Avios after the transfer.

It appears that BA does not really fly to NZ. We looked at how they would book it, and they routed us through Heathrow. We are not looking to do RTW at this point.

However, Qantas does seem to be a viable option, as far as flights are concerned.

Does anyone know if it makes sense to do the transfer from Avion points to BA Avios, and then book our flight on Qantas.

I did try to search for this here, but there seemed to be a great deal of uncertainty.

If anyone can help us decide, this would be much appreciated.
