As long as you avoid southern suburbs and you're discrete you should be fine. A close friend of mine who is an Italian diplomat in the Middle East always tells me that as long as you are a simple tourist who respects the rules and the traditions of the place it is highly unlikely they'll kidnap you or do something else without a particular reason.
