Have you visited Jordan? I was in Amman last month and got a flight in CW for less than £1000 return and was staying in the InterContinental due to it being a property on their 5000 points point break promotion.

Despite being located bordering Syria and Iraq it felt a safe place to be, I felt I could safely explore without risk. What I liked was I could walk around the streets and wasn't pounced on by those trying to rip off tourists like I got in Cairo (pre recent troubles) and Marrakech.

That said, I was talking to a member of staff at the IC and they did strongly recommend I paid a visit to Beirut and the Phoenicia which like the IC Jordan is also celebrating 50 years.

It is on one of my lists to do now, but will likely have to wait until next year unless I get a bit more free time.

EDIT: also remember the mid-haul C product is quite unique.
