Just last week I was boarding with a hot dog in my hand. (Had not eaten in 10+ hours, was just in time for the flight, and the hot dog shop was right by the gate). FA at the boarding door commented how good it looked, and I asked is she wanted one too. She said yes. Since they were right by the gate area, I went back out and got another dog for the FA. Apparently two FAs shared that single hot dog because two came to thank me and comment on how good it was.

So, policy or no policy, apparently sometimes FAs do accept and eat food from pax.
