I was flying a leg from DFW->AUS last night (paid fare, I am platinum on AA). I arrived early on my connection so I tried to go standby on an earlier flight. One guy ended up ahead of me on the standby list - I presume an exec plat, and he cleared. Two AA employees in uniform were also on the standby list but lower down on that list. They ended up clearning (so position 1 was cleared, I was at 2, and then 2 people at position ~7 and ~14 cleared). I ended up not making the cut and having to wait for my later flight.
I presume these were either AA employees returning home(?) or spending the weekend down in Austin. I am curious if anyone knows the rules/policies for this situation and specifically if it is ever ok for the standby list to be processed out-of-order like this. Had I known, I would have not wasted 40 minutes standing there just in case I would have cleared.
Thanks,
Conroy
Cabin crew can travel in the spare flight attendant jumpseats, and pilots can travel in the cockpit jumpseats. This is likely why they were cleared out of order, while paying passengers were standing by and ahead of non-jumpseat qualified non-revs.
