That must be very annoying. None of that has every happened to me (in fact, I did see FAs kicking people out of self-proclaimed EC seats). I'm not saying it hasn't happened to you; just that it's not always the case. I understand why you would be annoyed with this though.
On another note, I take the whole "more personal space, blah blah blah" as marketing talk. Yes, you do get a bit of extra space but it's not nearly as cool as they make it sound. It's just marketing gimmicks. I'm not saying it's ok (in fact, I think marketing should be much more strictly regulated), but it is what it is. It's like AF saying that EC gives you more privacy, which is simply laughable.

Food? On a KL 738?
The reasoning behind it is to speed up the service. It's more efficient that way. Personally, I prefer to have the carts out of the aisle as quickly as possible. That or do another round of drinks.
On my last flight on a KL 738 (2 days ago), they were pretty generous with the "food" (the guy behind me was joking with the FAs and at one point said he was hungry; they offered to give him more but he declined as it was only a joke). I've also seen quite a few pax refuse the "food" (a mini-pizza). I'm surprised they run out. Again, I'm not doubting you; it just surprises me.
