Lounge invitations speed your entrance into the lounge. You just need to hand it over to the agent, and you're in. The agent will scan your lounge invite later for record keeping purposes. If you use your BP, they will have to scan it first to ensure you have access, and of course also for the record keeping.
If there are a bunch of people waiting to get in, lounge invites will speed up the process for all.
There is no perceptible difference invite or not. They take it away on first use, which for me is always the Wing which opens at 5 a.m. for showers, and I then go to the closest or emptiest, usually the Pier.
Boarding pass at that point is no slower than the invite. Hand it to them, OK, welcome, you're in.
