We laugh (and rightly so), but there are some right nutters out there that do in fact claim that the Star Alliance is a conspiracy (!!!). An article I came across in the Daily Telegraph (a UK newspaper)
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/tr...-theories.html
mentions this:
"The Star Alliance
Founded in 1997, the Star Alliance is a group of 28 airlines around the world, that aims to “improve the travel experience” for millions of fliers and “reduce negative environmental impact”. Not so, claim a small online minority, who believe the group to be a shady cartel intent on “self-aggrandizing, machiavellian doctrines”. "
Doing a quick search on the interwebz led me to this giant eyeball-roll of a post....

here is a quick quote, for chuckles and such : ""The Star Alliance", incidentally, is an anagram of "I'll cheer at Satan". Here is Wolfgang Mayrhuber of Lufthansa (a key cult leader) brandishing a space-age pitchfork (old-fashioned pitchfork image provided for comparison)"
Guess The Onion wasn't so far off after all
