I wouldn't try TWOV if the itinerary had a stop within China adjacent to a transit in China unless the travel fits into the 24 hour TOTAL rule. IMO there's too much risk that either the airline or the Chinese authorities with treat it as a domestic segment. My guess is that you'll need to deplane and go through Chinese immigration because more passengers will be getting on for the domestic segment, so that it must be treated as domestic upon arrival.
