Folk’s, thanks for the many replies, all of them, I enjoyed reading the views and opinions, great forum.
So, I did promise to come back and post an update as to the outcome of my allegiance shift from EK to BA after a few trips, so here it is:
Was I mad or what? What in the name of Heaven got into me? BA is undoubtedly the most poorly equipped, disorganised, expensive, rude organisation that ever existed. If nothing else it has only re affirmed my decision taken many years ago to avoid them like the plague. The planes are still the nasty old 747’s from years ago (Nothing wrong with a Jumbo, except that BA do not maintain or clean them) the service though has not improved a single iota, in fact it’s worse. Grumpy staff, uncomfortable seats and lousy service.
Silly things like not having any immigration forms on board for entry to Singapore, that’s ok, can happen I am sure. But do not tell people that they will be waiting for passengers on disembarkation when they are not. What is the point in that? (I was not affected as just in transit to Jakarta. Saw a lot of people milling around though who obviously where on holidays etc, i.e. no crusty flyertalk veterans, and they were tired from a long flight and getting worked up and worried. Off course the BA ground staff had done a rapid vanishing act).
To can it all this was the first NCL-SIN-CGK trip & I naively convinced myself it was a one off so did the exact same trip again 2 weeks later. This is where BA proved it has some good traits i.e. its ability to be consistent! Yep , goes without saying another terrible trip.
Anyway, sorry for the rant (I expect I will incur the wrath of the BA supporters club). I will call an end to it now as I am sure you have built the picture. In summary I would say that Emirates is a vastly superior product where things can go occasionally wrong whereas BA is a budget airline charging premium prices where things are guaranteed go wrong.
Happy Trails & See you in EK Lounge Dubai if you are this Saturday night
