And this was exactly my point: The service took you to through immi, customs and to the street. UBP does not have customs so everything must be done in BKK.

The HKT transfer doesn't require that and pax can use the transfer security and grab bags/customs in HKT. Going through the regular immigration channels will actually cause some (overcomable) hassles upon arrival in HKT.
