I am surprised at how trivial people are making this out to be. If there is a fire, I can assure you that you would want these to function properly. My question would be with the fire panel. Is it operating normally, or in trouble mode. My assumption would be that it is in trouble mode. Go to the front desk and ask to see the fire control panel. Sometimes it is by the front door, sometimes it is behind the desk. If it doesn't say normal, then they should have a manager on 24 hours to monitor things, but under no circumstances are fire doors to be propped open if they are functioning normally.

It makes me wonder if Starwood has a specific safety standard for this type of issue or if they even care about it. I would take pictures of the trashcans, the status of the fire panel and send a message to Starwood. It isn't about compensation, it is about safety. It is honestly something I check out every time I travel.
