I don't think so, Jerry. Yes, they dropped the additional signup points/bonus on the Gold Rewards, when using a referral (was 20K by referral, now 25K from anywhere even without referral), but at the same time switched signup-by-referral advantage onto the Aeroplan Plus Gold, to make IT more attractive to signup by referral (30K vs 20K).

It was the exact same dates that the two referral programs changed. No coincidenct, me thinks.
