If it's when you come back, note that the time from touching China to leaving China has to be <24 hours. So, touchdown in Chengdu at 2pm on Day1, flight to Beijing, spending time there, departure on day2 has to be before 2pm.
Flight out from PEK (1 hour stop at CTN with no plane change, basically staying in the plane. Our IB flight from BKK to PEK is direct and we will departing within 24 hours to our final destination ORD. I was just confused about using two separate reservations in between our less than 72 hour stay at PEK before moving on to our final destination. I think that would be fine as long as I have printed/electronic award reservation with me.
