Naturally there are Thais at Khaosan- the ones selling house music and sub-par stir-fries- so maybe the youth get there are night, because it's generally backpackers from around the world, except Arabs and Thais.
I avoid it too, because 1)braids? no thanks and 2)it's far from my usual Sukhumvit Soi 3 hangout. If you're looking for cheap non-local (and local) eats though, Khaosan's a start.
