Today, October 14 is “Tetsudo no Hi” (鉄道の日) or “Train Day” or "Railway Day" in Japan. On year Meiji 5 (明治５年 or 1872) October 14 first passenger train service in Japan started between Shinbashi (station was at current Caretta Shiodome next to JR Shinbashi station, there is a plaque explaining the historic site) and Yokohama (current JR Sakuragi-cho station).
