We stayed here Christmas 2012. I was unsure at first about this hotel because I had to use a category 6 high season redemption to stay here at that time (25K/night) versus the Sheraton Salzburg which at a category 5 would've been either 12k or 16k/night. But in another SPG Salzburg thread, other posters said the redemption would be worth it.
They were right. This is one of those historic European hotels. As golds, we got upgraded to an Exclusive room in the main building with a view of the Getreidegasse road. The view of the street made it feel like we were right there in the heart of Salzburg. This upgrade made the stay. The "theme" of this hotel is the reindeer symbol, which happened to fit in with it being the holiday season. We easily walked all over Salzburg and to the nearby Christmas markets. We took the bus to and from the train station to get to the hotel. We also caught a bus from a nearby street to take a day trip to Berchtesgaden. Concierge was very helpful, as they usually are at all of our Starwood European stays.
I don't recall much else except that I had a delicious squash soup at the restaurant and wish I could return to this hotel again soon!
