Sleeper Limited Express “Akebono” brings back memory! Before Yamagata Shinkansen “Akebono” used to run Ueno-Fukushima-Yamagata-Akita-Aomori. It has become thing of the past when JR had sleeper trains running overnight all over Japan.

Used to take Sleeper Express “Ginga” between Tokyo-Osaka. Train left around 10 p.m. and arrived at the destination at 8 a.m. It was great for business giving full day at Tokyo or Osaka. But Shinkansen got faster and now runs Tokyo – Shin Osaka in less than 3 hours. Many business travel between Tokyo and Osaka became day trip and ridership of Sleeper Express “Ginga” went down.
