My reason to convert was I had the slate from the $0 fee, 0% money transfer days. When those good times ended the card just sat unused and sad. I wanted the Freedom for the 5x UR points quarterly categories. I could have applied for new account, but my slate was 11 years old, and sign up bonus was only 10k UR points. I thought it better to keep the old account active and avoid a credit pull. Now the old account is actively being used again each quarter.
